Privacy policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This policy explains what the Guidamo app (Android, by sminevbuilds) and this website collect, why, who processes it, and how long it's kept. In short: we keep as little as we can. Your walks and passport stay on your phone, and apart from 30-day security logs, the only thing our servers keep about you is your account.
Questions or requests: contact@sminevbuilds.com.
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings → Delete account. Without the app: email contact@sminevbuilds.com from your account's email address. Full details of what's deleted and what's kept: Delete your account.
What we collect and why
| Data | When and why | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | To create and sign in to your account: your email address, and either a password (stored only as a hash) or, if you continue with Google, what Google shares when you sign in: your name, a link to your profile picture and your Google account id. We don't use the name or picture, and Google never shares your Google password with us. | Until you delete your account |
| Precise location | To find places near you and play their stories as you walk. When you ask a question, your position and the direction you're facing are sent with it so the answer can be about what's around you. | Not stored with your account; appears in server request logs (below) |
| Places you've recently heard | The names of places you heard stories about in the last 7 days are sent with story requests, so a new story can link back to them ("like the church you passed earlier"). No coordinates. | Not stored |
| Walk history | Your walks, and the places you heard on them, are kept on your device for your walk history. Each place keeps only a coarse location (about 1 km), never your exact route. | On your device until you delete the app or its data |
| Voice recordings | When you ask a question out loud, the clip is sent to our server so the AI can understand and answer it. | Not stored; discarded after the answer |
| Photos | When you ask about a photo, it's sent to our server, which removes embedded metadata (such as GPS) before the AI sees it. | Not stored; discarded after the answer |
| Typed questions | To answer them. For questions about current facts (opening hours, events) the AI may search the web with Google; the search terms it used are logged. | Question not stored; search terms in server logs |
| Daily usage counters | A count of today's requests per feature, for the daily limits. Only today's count is kept, no history. It's stored under a scrambled code made from your email address, never the address itself, and can't be turned back into it. | Until the day ends (UTC), even if you delete your account sooner |
| Server request logs | Our server logs each request to keep the service secure and fix problems: your account id (a random identifier, not your email), your IP address, the address requested (which includes your position when the app looks up places near you), and for questions the web search terms used. Logs never contain your email, question text, voice or photos. | 30 days |
| Crash reports and app logs | Errors and technical logs from the app: device model and OS version, battery and GPS status, whether you're walking or in a vehicle, the names of places you heard, and occasionally your location. Tied only to a random id created when the app is installed, never to your account, email or name. Sent only from the released app. | 30 days (logs), up to 90 days (error reports) |
| Story reports | When you report a story as wrong, the place, the story version and your reason are sent with the same random install id. | Up to 90 days |
We use this data only to run Guidamo, keep it secure and improve it. We don't sell your data, show ads, use advertising ids, or build profiles about you.
What stays on your phone
Your walk history, walk recaps, passport and exploration progress, downloaded areas and settings are stored only on your phone and never sent to us.
Android backup. If backup is on in your Android settings, Android copies your walks, passport and settings to your own Google account, encrypted, so they come back on a new phone. We can't access that backup. Downloaded areas and your sign-in session are excluded.
Permissions the app asks for
- Location (precise or approximate): the core of the app: finding places near you and telling their stories as you walk.
- Location during a walk, with the screen off: while a walk is running, the app keeps using your location with the screen locked, shown by a persistent "walk" notification, so stories keep playing in your pocket. It stops when you end the walk. The app doesn't use your location when no walk is running and it's not on screen.
- Microphone: only while you're asking a spoken question (including from your headset or the notification during a walk).
- Camera and photos: only when you choose to ask about a photo. You pick or take the photo; the app doesn't scan your gallery.
- Physical activity: to notice when you're on a train or in a car and pause the walk. Android's Google Play services detect this on the phone; we don't upload it, apart from app logs noting that a walk paused.
- Notifications: for walk controls and the arrival buzz in Quiet mode.
Who processes your data
We use these service providers. They process data only to provide their service to us.
- Google Cloud: runs our server (Netherlands) and keeps its logs, and stores generated audio and images. Your questions, voice clips, photos, position and recently heard places are processed by Google's Vertex AI (Gemini) to generate answers and stories; questions are processed in the EU, stories about places may be generated on Google's global infrastructure. Answers and stories are turned into speech by Cloud Text-to-Speech. Google doesn't use this data to train its models; it may cache inputs in memory for up to 24 hours and log prompts to detect abuse (Google's data governance terms).
- Google Search: for questions about current facts, Gemini may search the web; Google keeps those searches for up to 3 days. The answer then shows Google's search suggestions, loaded from Google (which sees your IP address).
- Google Play services on your phone provide location and activity detection, under Google's privacy policy.
- Supabase (EU, Germany): stores your account (email, and a password hash or your Google profile details) and handles sign-in and account emails.
- Google Sign-In: if you choose Continue with Google, Google confirms who you are and shares your name, email address, profile picture link and Google account id with us. You can remove Guidamo's access at any time in your Google account.
- Cloudflare Turnstile: a bot check on the sign-in screen. Cloudflare sees your IP address and browser signals for that check.
- Sentry (EU, Germany): crash reports, app logs and story reports, keyed by the random install id. The app doesn't send your account details and asks Sentry not to store IP addresses.
- OpenFreeMap: serves the map. Like any website, it sees your IP address and which map area is being loaded.
Our server, not your phone, fetches place images from Wikimedia Commons, so Wikimedia never sees you.
When you share a walk recap, open a place in Google Maps, or open a Wikipedia link, you're handing that content to the app you choose, under its own privacy policy.
Security
All traffic between the app and our services is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Our server only accepts signed-in requests, our database is closed to direct public access, and only the developer can reach the server, database and logs.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing contact@sminevbuilds.com. We'll answer within 30 days. If you're in the EU/EEA or UK you can also complain to your data protection authority. We process your account data to provide the service you asked for, and logs and crash reports for our legitimate interest in keeping the app secure and working.
Children
Guidamo isn't meant for children under 16 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has created an account, tell us and we'll delete it.
This website
This website has no cookies, analytics or trackers. Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, for a short time to run and protect the site.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
